Conservatory and roof glass takes a beating from the weather. Here's how the common problems are fixed.
Common conservatory glass problems
Conservatory and roof glazing is exposed to sun, rain and temperature swings, so misted sealed units, cracked panes, and leaks around the glass are common over time. Older polycarbonate roofs can also discolour, leak and offer poor insulation compared with modern glass.
A misted or cracked roof unit is replaced much like any sealed unit, just with safe access arrangements.
Repairs and upgrades
Individual failed units can be swapped while keeping the frame. Many homeowners also take the opportunity to upgrade to modern energy-efficient, self-cleaning or solar-control glass that keeps the conservatory more comfortable in summer and winter.
Solar-control glass in particular makes a big difference to overheating in sunny conservatories.
Safe access is essential
Roof glazing work needs proper access equipment and care, so it is not a DIY job. A glazier assesses the roof, replaces or upgrades the glass safely, and ensures it is correctly sealed against leaks.
